LOADING TUBES WITH TELESCOPING

Task
Evaluate the possibility of placing a large number of cylindrical cargo (pipes) in a truck body of a given size. In this case, pipes of smaller diameter can be embedded (telescoped) in pipes of a larger diameter.

Fragment of an Excel file for automatic loading into a program

Solution:
We follow several steps to solve this task.

To prepare for loading, we assign cargoes the priority of loading (Group attribute) in accordance with their lengths. First, longer pipes are loaded, then shorter ones. Preferably, the lengths should match exactly their real values. However, an error of a few centimeters will be insignificant, so it is recommended to set all lengths to uniform sizes so that the number of groups does not exceed 6-10. In this case, the algorithm will work more optimally.

To load, select the appropriate “Pipes” algorithm and set the parameters “Fast” and “From the end”.

Choice of loading method and parameters

As a result of the calculations, all pipes were loaded, they are visualized on the 3D tab. Division of pipes into groups according to their length is highlighted in the list of loaded goods on the left.

If there are boxes in the loading list among the pipes, they will be automatically loaded with the “Volume” method – no additional actions are required from the user.

Conclusion:
The program is useful for assessing the possibility of loading a large number of cylindrical cargoes in a vehicle body, the analysis takes several minutes.
